Christoph
Kern

Christoph Kern, born in Munich in 1960, is a German artist known for his exploration of platonic solids, particularly the cube, as a central motif in his work. Graduating from the AdBK in Munich, he considers the canvas a laboratory for unraveling the mysteries of painting.
Since 1989, Kern has exclusively painted cubes, utilizing 3D programs for image creation.
The cube becomes a metaphor for evolutionary questions, capturing both uniformity and infinite diversity. Each painting, designed as a "work in progress," reflects various "cube generations," mirroring evolutionary processes.
Kern`s cube formations undergo metaphorical states—falling, rolling, finely drawn, or massively set. The numerous overlays allow his cubes to occupy positions amid undefined and unfathomable spaces. Atmospheric color nuances add mystery without compromising the concrete, constructive essence of his exploration.
Described as a perpetual explorer, Kern views his atelier as a laboratory, comparing the exploration of cube forms to conducting physical experiments. His art provides a unique perspective on the evolution of art, revealing the harmony within nature through declination and reduction processes. Stephanie Gilles contextualizes Kern`s work as a revelation of evolutionary processes in nature, paralleling Cezanne`s insights.
